Festival Workshops
WORKSHOP 1: MAKING GREAT VIDEOS
Learn to make videos with your friends that are fun and exciting! You’ll produce a short video and develop a number of ideas for video productions of your own. Please bring a camera, one blank tape, and all available accessories. If you don’t have a camera, you may share one of ours. A screening for parents will be held at the end of the class. Gary Beaudoin returns to lead this informative workshop.
Open to students in grades 6 and above.

WORKSHOP 2: THE ART OF SHORT STORY EDITING
A hands-on approach to the 3 phases of video production- Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production. Emmanuel, along with MSU’s Documentary Filmmakers will guide young filmmaking teams to produce a short commercial. Emmanuel Etim II is a graduate of Michigan State University’s Digital Media Arts Masters of Arts program. Etim has worked in live concert and cultural show production with Detroit’s Hype Productions. Etim is a freelance editor and has produced Interactive Educational Media for Wayne State and Michigan State University and is currently finishing the editing for 3 short films for Lansing’s Jazzytam productions sponsored by the National Black Programming Consortium.
Open to grades 5-8.

WORKSHOP 3: SHADOW PUPPET ANIMATION
A hands-on demonstration of an animation technique that combines stop-motion animation with shadow puppets. So simple (and affordable) you can do it from home! Director Jamie Cope, President of Destiny Images a Creative Production Co. in West Virginia will lead the workshop.
Open to kids in grades 9-12.

WORKSHOP 4: STOP MOTION ANIMATION
Stop Motion Animation will let your imagination fly! In three hours, participants can will plan, film and edit a mini-movie using a digital camera, tripod, and “Movie Maker” on Windows XP computers. Instructor Lisa Wickman is a technology teacher at Haslett Public Schools, has a Masters Degree in Educational Technology and has been teaching kids how to make movies for four years. Students will work in groups of two and each group will need one digital camera of 128mb minimum of storage (with USB cables) a tripod and their favorite movable figurines.
Open to kids in grades 4-6.

WORKSHOP 5: TV PRODUCTION FOR FAMILIES
Bring the whole family and get a behind the scenes tour of WKAR Production Studios. Discover how your favorite characters Arthur, Maya and Miguel, Caillou, Curious George, & QuizBusters make it into your living room with producers Susi Elkins and Bill Richards.
Open to families.
