Please join the East Lansing Children’s Film Festival on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at NCG Eastwood Cinemas in Lansing, MI for the screening of SPirit Bear: The Simon Jackson Story.
Based on a true story, journey with then 15-year-old Simon Jackson as he launches a one-man campaign to save from extinction the rare and endangered white Kermode bear. Young Jackson’s tale is the classic battle of one-man against the powerful logging industry and entrenched government agencies. As Simon struggles with his own naiveté, a modern day David and Goliath fight ensues as he works to protect the bear’s remote habitat from logging in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia.
An inspiring story of a young person discovering an injustice, pursuing a passion, and enlightening the world that one person truly can plant the seeds of change.
The ELCFF is dedicated to showcasing films from around the globe that enrich, inspire and entertain children and teens without violent or exploitative content. In addition to offering a 7-day festival, the ELCFF is devoted to the highly creative and enriching world of film, a youth film competition that focuses on films made by children in grades K-12, a junior film critics club, and year-round workshops in media literacy, filmmaking, animation, documentary and live-action filmmaking.
