Michigan filmmakers bring the “outside-in”
Michigan filmmakers bring the “outside-in” at the East Lansing Children’s Film Festival’s opening night of screenings sponsored by the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy!
East Lansing, MI
Come out from the cold and join in the fun for all ages as the 9th Annual East Lansing Children’s Film Festival kicks off its big week of fun with an Opening night that brings the outside in! Opening night features short films that celebrate the beauty and diversity of our natural world - from the animals that inhabit the earth to plants that grow up from the soil. Young and old audiences alike will enjoy this year’s opening night fare, which takes place Friday, February 24, 2006 at 7pm in the Albert A. White Performing Arts Theatre at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center! $5/children (18 and under) and $7/adults.
The ELCFF welcomes back Michigan filmmakers Laura and Robert Sams, creators of “Stranger in the Woods: The Movie” and “Bearly Alike”, with their new film, “Lost in the Woods: The Movie”. Based on the best selling children’s book written by New York Times best-selling authors Carl R. Sams II and Jean Stoick, Lost in the Woods: The Movie, springs to life in this humorous adaptation. A wizened box turtle named Shirley meets and befriends a very lost raccoon, Fernando, and helps him discover the magic of spring. The book has already received three prestigious awards including the Independent Publisher Award (IPPY Award) for Best Children’s Picture Book. The multi-talented brother and sister director-duo also wrote and performed all original music and voice-overs. Adding to the fun, director/videographer Bill Robison brings his film, Ocean’s Alive! to the festival - a 10 minute, live action/underwater short shot in Cozumel, Mexico. Robison, along with Lost in the Woods filmmakers Rob and Laura Sams will be on hand following this hour-long program of live-action and animated shorts for questions and to share more with the audience.
Come for the fun! Come for the films! Come meet the filmmakers!

The ELCFF is dedicated to showcasing films from around the globe that enrich, inspire and entertain children and teens without violent or exploitative content. Now a 7-day festival (February 24-March 2, 2006) the ELCFF is devoted to the highly creative and enriching world of film, a youth film competition that focuses on films made by children in grades K-12, a junior film critics club and year-round workshops in media literacy, filmmaking, animation, documentary and live-action filmmaking.
